The Hand Rover

March 30, 2019 by Kyle 2 Comments

So we here at OFF-ROAD YOYO are going to drop a yo-yo soon. It is called the Hand Rover, or “Rover” for short, and we’re quite excited about it. In case you have not seen our story-time video explaining the backstory, you can check it out below.

Backstory – Video

TLDW;

The Rover was designed by Jordan Blofeld (Smashing YoYo Company, Only Pink YoYos) but he and his team had decided to pass on it. We got ahold of one of the prototypes and loved it. We worked something out with Jordan that allowed us to pick up the design and run with it, and that’s what this is.

Some Specifics

The Rover is a full sized 6061 yo-yo designed for EDC and laid-back throwin’. It’s not a face-melting competition super machine, nor is it a gimmicky “try it once and set it down forever” collector’s piece. It’s a yo-yo, and we feel that it’s a pretty darn fun one.

We went with a matte blast on these, which gives it a soft and somewhat chalky feel in the hand. We’ve been throwing our personal one non-stop since they arrived and we’ve found that the finish will smooth down over time. This leaves the Rover with a sort of “river stone” like finish that we really like.

The Rover will be shipping with a standard thickness “Limelight” colorway string from Airetic Strings. Having had the privilege of trying string from a number of different companies, artists, and enthusiasts, we have decided that Airetic’s nylon formula suits our style (and hot Texas weather) the best.

We’re going with the term “salvage” for our B grades, and in this case it is due to a few ano flaws or small dings that look to have occured prior to anodization.

Available in green (engraved, not engraved), black (engraved, not engraved), and raw (not engraved).

Black variants and salvage are extremely limited, but we have a healthy number of greens.
